Celebrating the Nation's Best Teachers

Working together with the NEA Foundation, we've established and continue to celebrate the nation’s best teachers through the Award for Teaching Excellence program.

The Award for Teaching Excellence program celebrates the best NEA Member Teachers. This year, we're working directly with the students of teachers nominated for this prestigious award to tell each teacher’s story in digital format, from the students’ point of view. Working directly with digital arts allows students to actively and thoughtfully put to use the same 21st-century learning skills that they casually engage during their everyday lives.

In 2010, the NEA Foundation and the Pearson Foundation celebrated the following teachers in particular:
  • Karen Gorringe, Bluffdale Elementary School, Utah Educational Association
  • Teresa Lawrence McNeill, Walter Hines Page High School, North Carolina Association of Educators
  • Kathy Steinhoff, Jefferson Junior High School, Missouri Education Association
  • Terri Vest, Twinfield Union School in Plainfield, Vermont Education Association
  • Maryann Woods-Murphy, Northern Highlands Regional High School, New Jersey Education
Congratulations to them all!
